Parish School of Religion (PSR)

We offer a variety of programs to support parents in their role as the primary educators in the ways of our Catholic faith for those children attending public or other private schools. For information on the following programs please contact Mary O'Neill, Director of Faith Formation for Children and Families.

PSR GRADES PRE-K TO GRADE 8

PSR is available for students in Pre-K (age four) through Grade Eight who are enrolled in public school or another private school to grow in faith. Students will learn about the Catholic faith in a positive and welcoming community. This year we will be meeting in person on Sunday mornings from 10:00-11:15 am and gathering as a community for the 11:30 am Mass.

We are also looking for volunteers for the PSR program to serve as catechists and aides. If you are interested in assisting with the faith formation of the children of the parish, please contact Mary O’Neill, Director of Faith Formation for Children and Families, by email at [email protected] or by phone at (216) 932-0617 x119.

PSR HOME SCHOOLING: GRADES 1-8

Under certain circumstances, families are able to participate in a homeschool model of PSR. Parents are responsible for discussing each topic and completing weekly lessons with their children. Contact [email protected] for more information.

HIGH SCHOOL PSR: GRADES 9-12

At this time, there is not a program for this age level.

CATECHESIS OF THE GOOD SHEPHERD

We are very excited to announce that Gesu will be offering The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) for the three to six-year-old children of our parish beginning in January 2023!

CGS will be offered weekly on Tuesday afternoons (1:00-2:45 pm) starting January 10 and ending on May 9. The sessions will take place in a specially prepared room called the atrium.

The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is a Montessori-based approach to the religious formation of children, rooted in Sacred Scripture, Liturgy and respect for the child’s rich relationship with God. The children work with beautiful child-sized materials that aid in meditation and absorption of the themes presented. This work in the small atrium community leads them to prayer and a fuller participation in the greater church community at Mass.

We are in need of some materials to begin this ministry, such as low shelving units, low tables/benches, and child sized chairs. For more about the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd at Gesu and specific items please contact Keri Cupp at [email protected] Find more information about CGS at cgsusa.org. Please pray for those called to this ministry.

CATECHESIS FOR ADAPTIVE NEEDS (CAN) AND YOUNG ADULT CATECHESIS FOR ADAPTIVE NEEDS (YA CAN)

The Catechesis for Children with Adaptive Needs (CAN) and Young Adult Catechesis for Adaptive Needs (YA CAN) programs give all children and young adults an opportunity to learn about the Catholic faith. Sessions meet the needs of children with a variety of different abilities and adaptive needs to engage with others and participate in activities while growing in faith. For more information please contact [email protected].

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL

Vacation Bible School meets for one week during the Summer for children in Pre-K through Grade Four. Students will experience faith, fun and fellowship through Scripture, crafts, service projects, games and music. For more information please contact [email protected].
