Parish School of Religion (PSR)

We offer a variety of programs to support parents in their role as the primary educators in the ways of our Catholic faith for those children attending public or other private schools. For information on the following programs please contact Marcia Leous, Co-Director of Faith Formation.

The PSR program serves to support parents in the spiritual development and faith formation of their children. Children in grades PreK-5 gather at Gesu School from 10:00-11:15 am on Sunday mornings. Classes are periodically supplemented by family programs and intergenerational gatherings that foster both parental involvement and a connection with our faith community.

Junior High PSR offers a faith formation program for students in grades 6, 7 and 8. Our program meets each Sunday during the Catechetical year, from 10:00-11:15 am and is an interactive learning model which centers upon Catholic beliefs, scriptures and morality in light of our Ignatian identity. Our primary goal is to help our youth grow in their Catholic faith by incorporating prayer, catechesis, scripture exploration, small group discussions and service opportunities.

Under certain circumstances, this option offers parents the opportunity to work with their child/ren at home as the primary teachers of the Catholic faith. Parents are responsible for covering all of the textbook material and discussing the topics with their children, on a weekly basis as they learn their grade-level Catholic social teachings and catechism. Families that choose to participate in this program are still expected to participate in all family-centered intergenerational events and grade level activities in order to foster a connection with our parish community.

High School PSR meets on Sunday mornings from 10:00-11:10 am in Gesu School for those teens that are not enrolled in a Catholic high school. This secondary/high school catechetical program follows a curriculum which addresses Christian morality, God and Religion, Jesus and Christianity, the Catholic Church and what it means to be “Catholic” in our world, witnessing to the gospel values. Every teen that wishes to be confirmed, must be enrolled in either a Catholic high school or the parish High School PSR program.

As the Community of Gesu, we have adapted and/or modified our religious education curriculum to better meet the needs of children with different abilities and adaptive needs. If you are a family with a child with special needs, we are here to journey with and help you! Gesu offers ALL people the opportunity to receive the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation and First Eucharist) and will journey with your families toward the reception of these sacraments. Classes will be held monthly, on Saturday mornings from 10:00-11:00 am in the Loyola Room of the Dayschool, from October through April (see below for a complete calendar). If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Marcia Leous. The presence of your child/ren in this program is a sign and symbol of God’s love for all!
