Parish School of Religion (PSR)

We offer a variety of programs to support parents in their role as the primary educators in the ways of our Catholic faith for those children attending public or other private schools. For information on the following programs please contact Mary O'Neill, Director of Faith Formation for Children and Families.

PSR GRADES PRE-K TO GRADE 8

PSR is an opportunity for students in Pre-K (age four) through Grade Eight who are enrolled in public school or another private school to grow in faith. Students gather in person on Sunday mornings from 10:00-11:15 am and then attend the 11:30 am Mass as a community. Trained catechists create a welcoming environment and prepare engaging activities for the students to grow in understanding of the Catholic faith.

We are also looking for volunteers for the PSR program to serve as catechists and aides. If you are interested in assisting with the faith formation of the children of the parish, please contact Mary O’Neill, Director of Faith Formation for Children and Families, by email at moneill@churchofthegesu.org or by phone at (216) 932-0617.

PSR HOME SCHOOLING: GRADES 1-8

Under certain circumstances, families are able to participate in a homeschool model of PSR. Parents are responsible for discussing each topic and completing weekly lessons with their children. Contact moneill@churchofthegesu.org for more information.

HIGH SCHOOL PSR: GRADES 9-12

At this time, there is not a program for this age level.

CATECHESIS OF THE GOOD SHEPHERD

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) is a Montessori-based approach for the religious formation of children that is rooted in the Bible and liturgy. The children and adult catechists meet weekly in the specially prepared room called the atrium, located in the sacristy hallway of the church. In the atrium, the children work with beautiful materials that aid in meditation and absorption of the themes presented. Working with the hands on material becomes their prayer, nurtures their relationship with God, and brings the Mass to life.

We are excited to offer three sessions for the 2023-2024 school year for children 3 y/o – Kindergarten! We will have a gradual entry and staggered start over several weeks for easier adjustment to the atrium. Space is limited to 14 children per session. Register now at https://bit.ly/44rk9E5. Please contact Keri Cupp for more information: kcupp@churchofthegesu.org.

CGS Sessions:

  • Tuesday 3:00-5:00 pm (Begins September 19 & ends May 7)
  • Wednesday 9:00-11:00 am (Begins September 20 & ends May 8)
  • Thursday 1:00-2:45 pm (Begins September 21 & ends May 9)
