“This is my chosen Son; listen to him.” These words in today’s Gospel prompt us to ask: Do I listen? How can I show by my living that I follow God’s ‘chosen Son’? How can I wake up to what God wants of me? Lent is a good time to reflect on these questions. Perhaps Lent could be thought of as a season for ‘listening’ – to God – through prayer and reflection. Prayer is a conversation between us and God, which implies mutual participation, not just us doing all the ‘talking.’ We can be sure God is there. As we prayerfully sort through the ‘weeds’ of our lives - the distractions that obstruct our path to a firm and clear relationship with our loving God – let us recognize God’s presence in our everyday living. Let us listen in our hearts. Let us be open to realizing what God wants of us. Let us then respond by our actions. Above all, let us keep the conversation going!
