Joined the Pastoral Staff at
Gesu in July, 1998
Sister Linda Martin, O.S.U., an Ursuline Sister of Cleveland,
became principal of Gesu Catholic School in 1998. She builds
on the educational leadership of the Sisters of Notre Dame
who staffed Gesu School for 72 years.
Founded by St. Angela Merici, the mission of the Ursuline
Sisters of Cleveland is to "transform society through
justice, compassion and contemplation." The fourth vow
of education, taken by each Ursuline Sister, shows the Ursulines
commitment to a high quality of education for children and
adults in all walks of life.
Sister Linda is a native of Cleveland, Ohio and has served
in the Diocese of Cleveland for the majority of her ministry.
She has served at St. Charles School, Holy Cross School, St.
Joseph School (Avon Lake), and other area schools.
30 years of experience as a teacher and administrator helped
to prepare her for educational leadership at Gesu. Prior to
coming to Gesu, Sister Linda was the founding principal of
a Catholic school in Florida. She considers her return to Cleveland
to serve in Gesu's faith community to be a wonderful homecoming.
Sister Linda completed her undergraduate work at St. John
College where she also received her first Master's Degree.
Her second Master's Degree is from Ursuline College in Administration.
"Catholic education is more than a ministry for me. It
is my passion!" says Sr. Linda. "Ministering with
the Jesuits affords me the opportunity to share in their educational
philosophy and mission. We both come from orders which are
known for emphasizing education and being committed to social
justice. Together we can do great things in the service of
God's people here at Gesu and in the wider global community."
In addition to her work at Gesu School Sister Linda is also
active in educational leadership in the Diocese. As a representative
of the Diocese she serves on External Validation committees
at other schools and reads Final Improvement Plans for the
Ohio Catholic School Accrediting Association. She is currently
also serving a term on the Board of Beaumont School.
