The Gesu Parish Pastoral Council promotes
and develops leadership in parish liturgical, spiritual and
temporal activities and programs. Council oversees and directs
the activities of the six parish commissions, and serves as
a consultative body to the Pastor. Together with the Pastor,
council discerns how best to carry out the parish mission.
Council's membership is comprised of the Pastor, the Gesu
Business Manager, officers (president, president-elect and
secretary), commission chairpersons and four men and four women
who serve as parish representatives. Each officer serves a
one-year term, while representatives serve two-year terms.
The Pastor, Business Manager and commission chairpersons continue
as council members for as long as they hold their positions.
Council is regulated by its constitution and by-laws, which
have been developed in accordance with the Universal Law of
the Church and Diocesan norms and objectives. Council's leadership
and representatives participate in annual diocesan workshops,
and members are encouraged to participate on a parish commission.
Council meetings provide a forum where parish needs and concerns
are brought to the Pastor's attention. At each meeting, council
reviews the activities of each commission, and makes recommendations
as to how the commissions may better serve parish needs. Council
periodically receives reports from the Gesu Finance Council,
and collaborates with the Finance Council on the utilization
of parish resources to implement parish programs, plans and
policies. Meetings are generally held on the third Monday of
the month, from August through June, and are open to all interested
parishioners.
