Joe Metzinger has been Director of Music at
Gesu for over 10 years; he also works part time as a Western
liturgical consultant and reviews recordings for the Liturgica.com
website. Before moving to Cleveland, Joe was music director at
the Shrine of the Blessed Sacrament in Washington DC, liturgist
at St. Helena Cathedral in Helena Montana, and Director of Music
and Liturgy for Campus Ministry at The Catholic University of
America. He also served as Director of Music for parishes in
Chicago and Silver Spring, Maryland. For a number of years, Joe
worked as part of the CANTUS research team, preparing indices
of Medieval chant manuscripts. He has authored several books
and articles on Gregorian Chant, liturgical music and architecture.
Joe received a Doctorate degree in liturgical music from Catholic
University in Washington DC with a dissertation on the liturgical
function of the Entrance Song of the Mass. He also earned a Masters
of Liturgical Music at Catholic University. He received his Bachelor
degree in music from Indiana University and was an exchange student
in Tokyo, Japan. |
